Anyone interested in Tiny Ruins (newish folk) in Guildford 11th August. Lovely band and in a tiny venue. theboileroom.seetickets.com |

Captain Malcolm Reynolds
Haven’t been around for a while. Went to Steelhouse Festival last weekend, had a superb 2.5 days. Discovered some new bands to me; Those Damn Crows, Hollowstar, Temperance Movement that were outstanding & some new bands that could be quite good when they’ve honed their stage craft. Saw a couple of bands that I’ve not seen in 25-30 years but are still outstanding live, Thunder and Living Colour being the two most notable. And a few bands that aren’t worth mentioning. It was odd seeing Thin Lizzy headline the Sunday, having split in ‘83 & Phil Lynott dying in ‘86, they played a 40th anniversary Black Rose set. I guess they have Darren Wharton & Scott Gorham in the band who were in Lizzy in ‘83, so probably have a legitimate claim to the band name; but the drummer, Scott Travis, is usually in Judas Priest, the bassist, Troy Sanders, was a guest & usually plays in Mastadon, the singer/rhythm guitarist, Ricky Warwick, was in 90s metal band The Almighty, and the 2nd lead guitarist, Damon Johnson, was from somewhere in the US & has some kind of pedigree. More of a super-tribute group to Thin Lizzy than Lizzy itself. |

A bit of Leftöver Crack in glamorous Staines last night, four support bands and all for £15, a punky bargain. If you like that sort of thing...
