And for that reason... I'm out. Oh... and also because I can't stand her :-)

Finally got round to sorting myself some ear plugs. My ears are already knackered as a result of attending 100's of small loud gigs but I need to try and limit any further damage. Even the tame gigs now seems to leave my ears buzzing for a couple of days afterwards.

Went to see Public Service Broadcasting at The Adelphi in Hull last night as part of Independent Venue Week, brilliant night.
Most of my gig going is local unsigned bands, mainly at the Polar Bear in Hull where they do a free weekly Sesh every Tuesday, but also have up and coming bands from out of town. Have seen Blinders, Strangebones, Blackwaters, Avalanche Party and Mouses there.
Lined up "bigger" gigs this year are Idles at Leadmill, Stiff Little Fingers(my teenage heroes!) at Leeds O2, Gold Sounds weekend at Brudenell Social Club, Leeds, Humber Street Sesh in Hull and Electric Fields.
Have read through the thread and am going to check out some of the mentioned bands I've not heard of, so thanks, as always looking for new stuff to listen to!

Love the adelphi Frangale, its such a glorious shithole!

I was planning on seeing Blood Red Shoes in London tonight but after Frank Turner in Leeds on Sunday and Drahla last night in London I'm knackered.

Drahla were fantastic, young Leeds punks with a female vocalist and an exceptional bass player. Sound quality of the venue was poor unfortunately and the support band were even poorer. Dreadful band called Ugly. So bad that me and chief couldn't stop laughing.

Have added Thee Oh Sees to my expanding list. The tickets were a bit salty at £30 but I'm keen to see them ... so £30 it is. I'll have to squirrel away money in dribs and drabs over the coming weeks and tell 'er indoors that I got the ticket free as someone can't go.

John Grant at The Sage Gateshead last night. Amazing voice and the sound was spot on as always, but I didn't really connect with the performance. Most likely my problem as I'd been up since 05.30 and he's not top of my playlist. I need to listen to more stuff outside my much loved favourites. Currently overdosing on 70s Bowie, but I can't leave him alone.
Next up - intelligent pop and singer song writers Danny Gruff, Dave Giles and The Candle Thieves at the Head of Steam.

Its Independent Venue Week this week, so there have been lots of interesting gigs going on in smaller places.

Went to the Lincoln Imp in Scunthorpe on Wednesday night to get my regular fix of "A", they were supported by a local outfit called Weirdwolf, and a rather fascinating two-piece called Black Futures.

I've found Black Futures on Spotify, but the production on there doesn't do anything like justice to the performance that we watched.

Had an awesome time, even if it was a 1am bedtime on a school night.

Saw The Residents last night in Oran Mor, Glasgow. Well, that's not the kind of thing you see every day. Knew it was going to be pretty visual so since it was sold out, we got in early to get a decent spot near the front . Bit of a pest having to hang about for half an hour before it started especially since there was no support but hey, what can you do ? Glad we made the effort though ... what a show ! The front man whose name I have no idea of was obviously getting on a bit and maybe running to slightly portly but what an energy he had ... especially in that costume (Google images if you don't know what I mean). The sweat must have been pouring out him. Highlight was probably their version of James Brown's It a Man's World ... but done like you've NEVER heard it before. Said to my mate at the start that it could go either way ... could be a shadow of their past glories or could be pure polished professionalism. I'm glad to report very much the latter.
