Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

It was a threshold run.
I'm fairly sure my max is set about right - but I think that target threshold HR is too high for me (regardless of whether or not it's my *actual* lactate threshold, it's way too hard for me to run at for more than a minute or so).

As I mentioned earlier, it has access to almost a decade of my training data - so it's not that it hasn't got it, it's just ignoring it.

85-90% for ten minutes should be fine assuming good health and accurate maxHR. I'd expect to be at that rate for well over 30 minutes in a 10k.

It might be fine for you, it's most certainly NOT fine for me.

Last 15 minutes of my 10k PB were 85 to 93% , and that was all out with plenty of cardiac drift. Last 6 minutes of my 5k PB ditto. Takes a while to get the rate up there in the first place. Maybe my max HR has come down more than I realise, but I still reckon that sounds like a tough session, even if you're not dealing with long Covid.

Or maybe I'm just a wimp 🙂

85-90% is a high effort*, I don't think I've ever seen Garmin suggestion suggest anything that high for me but obviously the coaching plans might have various philosophies. You can set your LT on the watch though (there are two settings, general and running) if it is using that. There's also a setting for what zones are based on, mine is set to be based on %age of MHR.

*It's also not threshold if it's a HR that isn't sustainable for a hour race which is the general guideline for threshold.
