Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Bob!
Surrey Phil wrote:Palace v Bristol Rovers (Division 2, 1978) 0-1 was my first. Considering how good we were that 1978-79 season, it wasn't until my fourth game that we actually won. Although that was the glory night against Burnley when we won the title. Sorry Bob!

No problem with that Phil, that ( until the last few years) was my favourite Brighton supporting era.
77 Promotion

78 Robbed of promotion by a contrived 0-0 by Spurs and Saints on the last game of the season

79 Promotion to the top division for the first time ever

Chelsea v Orient I think, probably 1975 or 1976, 1-1 draw? Went with my cousin and uncle, they were Chelsea fans. I was not.

First game at Spurs 1-0 v Bolton April 1978 in 2nd division. My mum took me and my brother to that game, must have been quite an undertaking on her part.

First game at Villa Park was probably around 88 for me, can't remember who it was against though, maybe Hull.

First York game was Feb 2001 against Rochdale - me and a few mates went along as it looked like the last chance to watch some league football while at Uni, they won, and set up a run that dragged them safe, and got me hooked

First game was Man City in Div 2, 1963. A Wednesday night game, as my dad's shop was open at weekends and so we could only make the evening matches.

All I remember is cycling down to Maine Road and parking our bikes in someone's back yard for sixpence or so. City lost I think, we sat in the Platt Lane end which had just had seats put in. A bloke near us was booing Neil Young - my dad said to him he's no worse than the rest of them, and the bloke replied "yes, but he plays like that every week."

I hope the bloke was at the 69 cup final for Nellie's goal, the winner in the Cup Winners cup final the next year and saw the 20 he scored in our 67-68 league win.

No, I've only done Sale Waterpark and Wythenshawe Park, as my mum lived in Brooklands. I was at school at MGS so I know Platt Fields well though.

Ah, the beautiful game, remember that? Let's put down some jumpers and have a socially-distanced kickabout. Long shots only, and no hugging and kissing.
