I do like players who go down injured are taken off the pitch for at least 2 minutes tho goal.com i agree about the being taken off bit, good idea. Danny Murphy was complaining the other day that it was 'nonsense' a player should have to wait 30 seconds before coming back on, as they currently are (though i'm not sure that rule's being followed in this tournament). It seemed like he had no notion of why there might be a need to have something like that. |

Diogenes
As I’ve said before, I’m always been a big supporter of Southgate, especially the way he has always made sure that the national team are firmly on the right side of the social and moral issues that surround the game. Past managers have distanced themselves from that sort of thing. However, and he could still prove me wrong, I think he’s made a complete mess of this tournament, from the warm-up matches to the final squad selection, and certainly the match team selections and substitutions. To go with only one fit left-sided player then not play him is madness. I hear that Gallagher is set to start tomorrow, despite doing nothing to improve us in his two substitute appearances. Cole Palmer’s lack of minutes is strange. You might expect me to be clamouring for Adam Wharton to start but, given the way we are playing as a team I’m quite glad he hasn’t been hung out to dry just to be dismissed after one game. My opinion is that he is the player we need in that midfield, but only if we are set up to play in the right way. I don’t feel like Southgate has any particular patterns of play in his game plans and there is no energy or movement in the side. I’m hoping for better tomorrow. We’ll need it in the knockout games for sure. |

I guess the message at the moment is “don’t panic.”
