You maybe Bob, but it’s a rarity.
Yes Dvorak, if you count Worksop I’ve got two teams. If you count Witham Wanderers who play in the local pub league and I occasionally venture over on a Sunday morning with the dog, I’ve got 3. Etc etc.
I may also be a grumpy twat at times (no maybe required).

In my humble opinion actually going to the game is one hundred times better than watching on the TV. And if you get to go to the game with your sons it is probably a thousand times better.

Watching football on tv is about as close to a live match as giving someone kudos on strava is to going running with your mates. I’ve not been to a match this century but loved it in the 90’s, whether it was Derby, Chesterfield (a mate used to take me if his uncle wasn’t using his ticket), or Matlock Town. Going to watch a team you don't actually follow is a lot less stressful than one where you really care

I'm definitely not a regular at matches but I used to have a season ticket for Southend for a few years and took the kids. Loved that but times change and they got less interested, and I couldn't really justify it if I was going without them.

I had a season ticket at West Ham for years. Like most fans I got overly emotionally invested in the outcome, was perpetually miserable (with the odd burst of brief euphoria) and of course was completely myopic. Not healthy, not much fun really and bloody expensive.
Dropped the ST, developed a range of other things to focus on and largely decoupled myself. Much more fun overall now I have it all in perspective, even though the highs are not as intense.
That undoubtedly, as hinted by Joopsy, drops me in the ‘not real fan’ category. I’m ok with that description (especially as it’s usually trotted out to discount a dissenting opinion).

I guess the difference for me was that I was always a Leicester fan but had moved to Essex and found Southend both local and (relatively) cheap to get to. I still look for their results and keep an eye on them but they were never my true love!

I’d like to thank you all for your presumptive posts.
But yes, I consider myself fortunate that for a lot of my younger years I could afford to go, and again for that luxury now. If you can’t afford to go and watch the team you support, then I have total sympathy with that. I had a season ticket at OT for 19 years and lived through some of the greatest times my club are ever likely to see, for that I’ve been told I’m a glory hunter continuously since 1993. I’ve had a season ticket at Worksop Town for as long as I remember, some of those years I was living in Letchworth and never went to a game, but it helped the club stay afloat.
I have four kids, none of them like football, it used to bother me a bit when they were younger, now I just think they are wise to not get involved.
But yes Cheg, if you actively choose not to go and watch your team then I wouldn’t call you a supporter of them. A football fan maybe, but punching the air whilst watching sky sports does not make a supporter. I’m not sure if that applies to you so don’t take it personal, if you don’t go, I’m not especially bothered why.
Am I a real fan? In my opinion no, I choose to go to way more music events than football and could afford a ST if I didn’t. And yes I can be a downright grumpy twat and I make my own rules up.
I’m off to gloss the skirting boards in a vain attempt to cheer myself up.

"Actively choose not to" is a bit subjective. I live 140 miles from my home town. I've got a family and a job and I very rarely make the effort and go to the expense of going to see them at home. I've seen them away when they're somewhere down here more often than I've seen them play at the King Power.
Am I actively choosing not to go and watch them? I guess I am to some degree but it's really not the case that on a weekly basis I make that decision to miss another match.
Either way am I a "proper fan"? Probably not, and I can live with that. I get enjoyment (and pain) from following them but it rarely ruins my week if they lose.

And I just re-read what you actually said, Joopsy. I'd probably say I'm a fan but I couldn't claim to be a supporter.
