Well said Nellers, agree with a lot of that. Fine margins, Rashford scores and we win IMHO, he did the hard part in sending the keeper the wrong way and if you're going to do that you don't need to get it so close to the corners.
The other 2 penalties were poor, both a nice height for the keeper and struck too safely (not enough power, nor close enough to the posts).
Pickford was awesome for the Jorghino save and like Donaruma could've been the penalty hero, feel a bit for Saka taking the 5th.

I don’t think it’s a complete lottery but there is a big element of chance in there that can be reduced by practice and preparation. No-one is 100% guaranteed to score a pen in a shootout.

It's definitely not a lottery until you take one hoping the keeper goes the wrong way.
If you stick the ball in one of the 4 corners at a decent pace the keeper will stand very little chance of getting it.

My eldest lad is coming up 19 and we watched together (for which I am grateful as he really wanted to be in the pub with his mates I suspect). He was holding back tears at the end. I did try to help him understand that this might be as good as it EVER gets but that he would only come to understand that in time and to try to enjoy it for the wonderful ride it was. I did also say that in my view it is easier to win the World Cup... (but that's for another day)... it's the hope that gets you

Beat me too it Fetch, their main man who had just played 120 mins and never misses, somehow missed.
We’ve had people on here saying that Southgate did the wrong thing after his decisions had actually worked a treat, so even with hindsight they’d still potentially get it wrong.
I’m absolutely gutted, more so than I thought I’d be but so pleased we actually got to the last day for once and kept the dream alive.
Until the next one, when it’s definitely coming home.

You’re right, Brunswick, but there’s also a big degree of whether or not you can put in one of the four corners in that moment with the pressure. Prep and practice make it more likely but don’t guarantee it.

It defines a career, like it or not. Harry Kane admitted it in his comments to the media last night. Stuart Pearce found redemption, but that is rare.
Southgate probably has now, and at the back of his mind was probably imagine how wonderful it will be if one of Rashford, Sancho, Saka scores the winning penalty. But today with racism spewing across social media, Tory mps outdoing each other with their odiousness, perhaps he should have considered the worst case scenarios.

Not agreeing with that Chris. People should be held accountable for their behaviour, that's not in Southgate. The manager makes the decision he thinks is best.
Most things are talked about in hindsight, we can't exactly talk about it before it happens and even if it works out you can say you aren't sure the same decision should be made again. Saka is the only taker I really question. The other two, I'm just thinking they should have come on earlier. Does it make a difference, who knows.
