It's a harsh penalty, but perhaps not altogether unwarranted. The connections between the owners and the sponsors are self-evident and the record sponsorship level (at the time) was out of kilter with the market for sponsorship of other (greater supported) clubs.

Will be interesting if City win the Champions League this season (and what a motivation for some of their older players - last chance saloon). Would be an impressive 'fuck you' to UEFA.
