If you pick it up you'll carry it until the closest point to its destination on your route and get points based on the distance that the ring's travelled. It's roughly going northeast so that would be the direction to head in.

But since there is only one person (maybe two - if you include Fetch himself) in the Fetchiverse who knows where it is headed, there is a possibility you could attempt to move it in the wrong direction - in that case, it wouldn't move and I don't know whether you'd get any points for trying.
