I could just listen to you two talking about 6 nations!
In awe of your swim distances.
Minardi and VJ both cool pieces. I love getting lost. Or rather being not *quite* sure but then "Aaaha that's where this comes out!" I don't listen to anything when running. But used to have a Walkman (showing age!) Listened to audio books on dog walk in dark in park. Had to stop listening to crime novels. Murder in the Park when walking in the park. Not good!
Off to read Beanies blog. Pllleeeeease can we have show notes in side bar or wiki? I forget the features and highlights you mention. Age probably. Thanks you guys. You're tops! G
i am really loving the podcast too- especially now im marathon training! ive even started listenign to marathon talk again ! i love hear ian talking about his runs up in and around nottingham as i spend a lot of time up there these days and all the landmarks are familiar to me ! my favourite runs are along the trent and the canals ! and west park with the parkrun todays listen made me go and check out the who squares wins as i do play and get notification but i will be honest i am 100% clueless as to what on earth its all about!!
is it a case of running through parts of the grid? i assume not as there is magpie robs name and i know he isnt in my town?!
Yes - it’s about running through the grid, but everyone has their own grid on their bit of the map. It’s about you running through your squares more than anyone else runs through theirs. There’s a whole thread about it elsewhere ...
Love the podcast, finally caught up with all episodes since I stopped listening in September-ish.
Loved this week's episode, especially the mediocre leisure centre review section. I've swam at Bramcote before and it really is a maze to get from reception and to the changing area/poolside. Also love the steep step into the deep end, although the first time I saw it it was the first length of the swim part of an aquathlon and it was slightly unnerving!
Another highly enjoyable episode. I really hope the mediocre leisure centre review segment takes off and we have more of these.
I have been lost on runs several times. My worst one was during the Kinder Trogg fell race. I was familiar with the majority of the route, as it was part of my normal training run. There was a ‘shortcut’ over the middle of the Kinder plateau, but I wasn’t interested in being shown that, as I knew I would never remember it. I did ask a friend of mine to show me a section towards the end of the course, which included the last big climb. We did that and I was pretty happy with it all.
Race day arrived, along with temperatures in the high 80’s.
All was going well, with everyone suffering a little in the heat. I remembered my route to the final checkpoint before the finish and set off on the descent, with a few others not too far behind me.
They learned a valuable lesson that day. Never follow me in a fell race. The five of us ended up on a footpath along an old railway eventually. I was carrying a map (although I clearly hadn’t bothered to look at it) so at least we were able to work out just how far off course I had lead them. There wasn’t much chat as we trudged the last few miles to the finish.
I was also lost in some woods on a training run with a couple of friends. It was my first time in the woods, but they were sure that they knew the route. Unfortunately we got to the woods at dusk and, by the time we were in the woods and looking for the path up to the road on the other side of them, it was very gloomy indeed.
At one point, one of the people who were going to lead me out of the mess started trying to shine the light on his watch onto the ground to pick up the path.
We only have one featured fetch recording for tomorrow, would anyone else have anything they'd like to send us? Windy adventures? Racing in adversity? Treasure hunt tales?

Contributors We love getting contributions. Here's how:
1) find somewhere with minimal background noise 2) recording on a smartphone is fine 3) start with "Hello Fetchies, it's..." 4) a couple of minutes is a good length 5) don't worry about ums, aahs and pauses. We can edit them out. 6) email the file to podcast@fetcheveryone.com
