I agree with Lizzie, you can get 2 to the E faster than you can get 1 there, and it turns the ascending scale pattern into part of D major starting on E which will feel more natural & automatic.

Sorry don't understand your post Lizzie. Happy for you to ignore the 1&5s at both ends and just post regarding the six notes in the middle.

I started off with 1&5,2,3,1,2,3,4,1&5 (so a slight variation on yours) - but agree that the 3-4 stretch going from the B to D is awkward - particularly at speed. I then tried 1&5,2,3,4,1,2,4,1&5. Means tucking thumb under 4, but works much better for me (faster, more accurate and more consistent) |

Ok so you're saying start with 2 instead of 1 on the first of the 6 notes? Ok I can see how that works, after just trying it as 2 is already over E so no movement needed. Hadn't even thought of that at all, thanks. So if I do that 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 5 seems cleaner than trying to jump to one note with 4? |

X-post Ed. Thanks. That would work very well if I can get the thumb tuck under 4 consistent.

Ed - I presume you know what it based on your comment? I was thinking it would be a great tune for the Fetch band actual but probably wouldn't have much if any piano as a band tune. Lots of brass and strings. |

Lizzie - I think you were suggesting 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4? Sorry the initial either/ ors and five note finish confused me. |

The thumb tuck under 4 gets a bit easier when you've been doing scales over two or more octaves for the last 40 years (on and off)!! I find the exercises in "Hanon - the Virtuoso Pianist" really helpful for technique. Various things in there for tucking thumb under 4 (and thumb under 5 for the rare occasions you need to). Also for stretching between 3 and 4. The tune is bugging me - I can't quite place it. What is it? |

It's an arrangement for piano of The Avengers (Marvel). Musescore sheet music The Avengers (Theme) - Piano musescore.com I assumed you knew it because you said you'd tried it but should have guessed you meant at that moment. But you also mentioned speed as well which doubly fooled me as it is fast, lol. I have the Hanon book but I've barely looked at it TBH. One of those things that you know is useful but isn't as much fun as learning something you really want to play, lol. |
