It's a 5 channel 35MHz Futaba FP-T5LGK Ripmax. I wondered if my kids might want to use it, but they've not shown any interest so, while I'm clearing out other stuff, it may as well go. I have no plans other than romantic notions of getting something else, but in reality it's unlikely to happen.. |

Seriously, for 50 quid you can get something new and better. The 1980s stuff is of interest to the nostalgists, but you can get more for less nowadays. I'll look that transmitter spec up when back at aPC! G |

I was wrong. Mint in box £100 plus but used condition only 20 or 30. But if you are selling to a collector may take it as job lot. If you want to renovate it for modern use, you replace the motor and speed controller, about 50 quid and modern battery and it will be faster, more reliable and battery lasts much longer. But careful if faster that you don't smash it! G |

Great day at the club yesterday, welcoming visitors as publicised on the Doors Open Day (designed for heritage buildings to throw open their doors to the public for one day only - but hijacked by us for promotion!) doorsopendays.org.uk Loads of kids, and parents, trying out cars. Some interesting different car models on display and demonstration, including RC Scale Scotland with "Rock Crawlers" (still 1/10th scale but designed for low speed obstacles, not for speed round a track) And some 1/5th crazy high power like this (this isn't them, just an example of YouTube) We did our usual races in heats to qualify and finals. I was woeful but had a good time. We had some club cars for public to try out (which was carnage - shows how hard they are to drive, for the first time!) And a silly couple of "buddy" races, with two drivers on one controller - one doing throttle and brake and one doing steering. Surprisingly competent synchronicity going on! Weather held fine, and a great day all round. G |

Sorry G, I meant to say I'm glad that the open day went well, but I think I got distracted by the crawling car Youtube link and then my job (boo!)

Calling back to my post from over a year ago on here fetcheveryone.com/forum/fetch-modellers---1-10th-rc-electric-buggies-but-could-include-other-stuff-if-you-want-60459/18 I made no progress and put it all away again. Then as son wanted an RC car for his birthday (see previous post) I got it out again to try to diagnose the issue. Same fault diagnosis, so I splashed the enormous sum of £9 on a new battery and hey presto it looks like it was the battery pack after all. I've got three packs of the original NiMH batteries and knew one set was duff, but thought the other two were OK as they maintained voltages fine. But the new one that arrived earlier this week seemed to fix the issues, so looks like it was a simple fix in the end. With a bit of luck and time I'll reassemble the chassis and cars again this weekend and get it whizzing around just in time for the boy's birthday so we can race his new 1/12th against my tiny 1/18th. |

Cool, well done larks. There's some satisfaction in being able to repair and revitalise them, isn't there? G

Yes; even if it is just "buy a new battery"! At the moment it is completely stripped down so my biggest challenge will be the silly things like securing the ESC to the chassis and getting the motor / pinion properly lined up. Plus finding some suitable oil for the shocks as I suspect they've dried up over the last couple of years of no use. Mind you, I was half under my 3tonne 8 seater van last night draining a tank so it's all a little sublime to ridiculous at the moment! |
