Smells of gone-off milk, as does our kitchen ever since MrsC got conned into this pyramid scheme.

OMG, this is bizarre - I was only talking about these the other day whilst watching the Hairy Bikers Bakeation as they were at a bakery where they had a mixture that looked very similar to a Herman . Am afraid that I won't be much more help than just that, but will have a wonder round as well in the hope to find out more. Good luck, great idea!!

I was standing in a queue in Boots the other day behind two girls who looked around 20. They were chatting a little but mostly checking their phones. All of a sudden a wail went up from one of them "Oooohhhh noooooooooooooooo. Oooooooomigooood!!!!" The other said "What is it?" in a slightly disinterested way. "My mum just texted to say she threw my Herman out because it smelt disgusting. Omigod. What a total bitch!"
It's serious stuff, it seems.

The girl in the queue also said that her mum's action made her wish she hadn't given a Mother's Day present. It's THAT serious, people, so if you take on a Herman, make sure you put it in a safe place and if a member of your family does, make sure you don't interfere with it
I did one with Smallest in the run up to the Christmas holidays. He thought it was quite fun and the resulting cake wasn't too awful, though a bit sweet for my taste. I remember this sort of thing being around when I was child but it was just called a "Friendship Cake" and was said to have originated in Germany. Calling it "Herman" is a recent thing in my experience and I can't decide whether I find it a little offensive or not.

Its catching!!! My mother in law started it, my mum was on her 3rd on gave it to me to look after but I just cooked it didnt start 3 more babies JenL it would be easier to stop them just calling it a friendship cake, give it a name I felt dreadful stopping its breeding..... tastes good though
I'll start another one off in the summer.

It was known as Herman cake in the 80's, it swept through our village, until we ran out of people to pass it on to!
Might have to get the recipe from mum and have a go with LMG.
