I saw an Osprey in Langdale two years ago. Weird looking planes. I believe the USAF have some based at Mildenhall. |

DT mentioned crossing from Wharfedale to Littondale earlier .... one of my goals for this year was to know what's around me a bit better, it's all very well aspiring to an encyclopedic knowledge of the Lakeland Fells but we actually live in Yorkshire and I know there is a lot of unexplored territory around Nidderdale and Wharfedale, for us at least Anyhow, that's a long-winded way of saying that we were going to enter a newish but not well-promoted LDWA called "The Kettlewell" that appeared to take some unusual lines, one of which was a trek up Mastiles Lane - which everyone knows of course - but then swinging NE and going over the intriguingly named Hawkswick Clowder, before descending into Arncliffe Cote. We were only saying the other day that it's been a few years since we did the full Wharfedale Marathon route, but I think we might try this instead.

Sounds like fun! A column where the Osprey features in the punch line. I remember reading that at the time - early 90s - and it ended up being another 15 years before they reached service. washingtonpost.com |

I’d forgotten about the Kettlewell. The route looked interesting. The path over from Arncliffe over to Kettlewell is an utter delight for anyone who’s not done it

You really need to come orienteering with us DT and NE, especially when we're in the Dales. One of our big orienteering areas runs over the top from Threshfield Quarry over Kilnsey moor and to Hawskwick Clowder. There are some really nice bits of limestone pavement you won't normally see if you just stick to the paths up there! |

NE, I'd missed that one. I assume it's not happening this year now?

Just seen this: grough.co.uk I thought Ingleton Waterfalls path (which it seems he was trying to access and was trying to go round a barrier of some description) was a PROW? But I've never been up there. Any know better? |

From memory there is a public footpath at the top but it’s private access at the bottom, which you have to pay to enter
