I’ve seen pics of the swift 122 (6M) which is what we have, where they have put the cushions from one bed onto the other and fitted bike racks onto the bench for travelling west I assume they must then store them in a tent outside overnight. Not having bikes, I didn’t look much at vehicles with garages, but isn’t the v-line sport the ideal one? What I'm after is more on the 'race van' model with a sealed space for storing bikes and filthy kit, getting wet/muddy gear off in without entering the main van but with acess from within the van. All with a fixed bed on top. The aim is to have a permanent bed and to keep all bikes, wet kit out of the living area but totally secure and protected whilst travelling. There are plenty of examples about but mainly one offs and on a 7m base (e.g Crafter, Sprinter). Dimension wise the concept should work on a 6m van but at least off the shelf no one seems to do it. That sounds about perfect! Do you think we could get a discount if we order two vehicles FF? Assuming you/we find something suitable Beginning to sound like a bulk fetch order could be possible 🤣 |

"What you have just described sounds like a Goldilocks van, but I also haven’t found it yet. Adria vans have the closest thing but not in a 6m van. If you do find such a thing, please share. I’d also potentially be interested." Looking at the Adria website they do seem to have both a 6m camper and a 6m motorhome that start to get close. There is a lack of pictures of the garage space and how it can be accessed but they are both going in the right direction. |

flyingfinn the only one I know of that has the height adjustable bed is the 640 SGX adria.co.uk Tbh for the extra 40cm length I’d live with it. From experience driving a 7m motorhome, it’s more the width that is an issue when driving - and even parking - than the length. |

They have both a 6m motorhome and two 6m campers on a fiat ducato chassis that have fixed beds with garage space below. Length over 6m is significant from a cost issue on Scottish ferrys and manoeuvrability on single track roads but I'd agree that width is also an issue which is why I'm generally keener on the camper option than a motorhome as they tend to be a little narrower.

They do, flyingfinn, but I think only the 640 SGX has the height adjustable bed I would want. At the end of the day I want to be able to load bikes without the hassle of removing wheels, etc. which, as Gobi pointed out, is what I have with my current MoHo. (That’s 7m long and 2.31m wide, with a ginormous garage under a really comfortable transverse double bed).

Ah! I understand now. Slightly different requirements. Must be useful having that set up from a space perspective but I wouldn't fancy taking it some of the places I end up. Especially width wise.

Yes, it can be a little ‘exciting’ at times.

There used to be a decent racing bike with smaller wheels called an Airnimal (IIRC) for travelling. It could be more fun to get a really high quality folder or racer with small wheels rather than change vans

For me it's more about the idea of having a sealed space for kit not carrying bikes per se. So it definitely involves a van change. It's essentially the product of 6 years of learning about how I use a van plus some changes in my circumstances.
