Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

We bought a motorhome with a rear garage specifically for that purpose and have a Fiamma garage bike rack in there - works perfectly. In fact, I’ve just put my bike away for the night as I’m in Dolgellau right now in the MoHo :-)

We have a motorhome and carry out electric bikes on a tow ball-mounted bike rack. All seems to work well.

Good points 🤔
For the moment, I am ignoring cost - plan is find the solution then see if it is affordable and cit cloth according?
Towbar or frame would be both permanent options - things stuck on the back of the van do not phase me at all - the van has to meet its function.
Towbar and tow ball mounted carrier has an advantage that I could stick a tow bracket on a car and be able to transport the bikes to local events easier than dropping the rear seats?
Towbar may also come into it's own later as I have ideas towards a tow car for the van.... but that is another story I know nothing about!
The fixed rack and bike weight... this does concern me, and something I figure you would know... how secure are the fixings and what do they fix against.. ie, what takes the weight??
A van with a garage??? Tell me more! Thinking this is the kind of enclosed plastic box fastened to the back of the van???

The tow bar takes the weight for ours.
A motorhome garage is built-in - a large space at the rear of the van with doors at either side.

Sarah, I have seen tow ball bike racks but never handled one... does all the weight go on the tow ball, and what stops the rack from flopping over??

The rack is fixed and has brackets underneath. Yes, the weight goes on to the tow ball.

We have a tow bar mounted Thule bike rack for our campervan. We had to go that route due to the weight of OH's electric bike

If you see a motorhome with fairly large doors at the back, it's likely that it has a garage.

Weight goes on the tow ball. We have an Atera rack which is really great for estate cars and Landrover because it slides away on rails (rather than hinging round a pivot) which gives you good access to the rear load space.
