Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Thanks RHappy...good to know the dates in advance. There'll be crocus up by then and if the weather stays mildish then there'll be that touch of Springtime in the air!

Don't what the correct term, but saw a beautiful flock of dunlins creating magnificent shapes over the sea this morning. In some ways it was like a murmuration of the sea. Saw a stonechat again, first time in Kinmel Bay though ; had another bird with it, maybe a female? But my bird book isn't conclusive.

Last sighting was of a thrush type bird in a hedgerow, had a really good look at it but can't 100% place it. Was mottled, but had black shapes on its head.

I'm also keeping my eyes peeled as apparently (spotted by our local mp no less!)there is a cattle Egret in Kinmel Bay. Thought I'd spotted it, ended up wading across a muddy field in my running gear, only to realise it was a little Egret when I got near!

apparently bonners it's a "fling" of Dunlin! Didn't you see a Great Egret too a while ago? The group/flock name of species is quite daft..a group of egrets has many collective nouns including: "congregation", "RSVP", "skewer" and "wedge". I think the word "group" and "flock" is just fine for any bird!

Cheers Steve, now we just need the name for several thousand wood pigeons! I got round to reading about them in hols, amazing, still a bit of a mystery where they all end up.

Yeah, I've been lucky enough to see two great Egrets, one at Conwy parkrun and one in Fairbourne. the little Egrets seem like they've set up home in numbers, still plenty around in December. Never seen a cattle Egret, hence the muddy scrambling when I mistakenly thought I'd spotted one!

My thrush type bird was a red wing. One of the local photographers posted on Facebook in the same area and it could well have been my bird as looked identical , so mystery solved.

I meant to suggest redwing. I haven't seen mine this year, they usually come and clear the cotoneaster berries, but the blackbird has had them all (or I've missed them)

We have the most winter thrushes (redwing and fieldfare) I've seen in a long time. A lot of blackbirds around too; maybe European birds here for winter too. Whether they're sneaking in pre-Brexit and planning on staying remains to be seen ;-)
