The differences between our robins and Scandinavian ones are subtle, but pretty much as Steve says :-) Our robin has quite a warm, milk chocolate brown back whereas the visitors are more of a greyish ash brown. Residents tend to have a really bright pillarbox red breast, whereas the mirgants are more of an orangey brick red. And as S45 says, whereas British robins are very much garden birds and tend to be almost tame, the Scandinavian birds are mostly forest dwellers and a lot more skulky in the undergrowth.

I've never seen a Siberian chiffchaff.

Had a great view of a red kite in the hills above Fairbourne today, even managed to nab a poor photo on my camera. Seen plenty of them further south, but this is the furthest north by far I've seen one. The great White Egret put in yet another appearance in the estuary before we started climbing. This is the holiday that keeps on giving!

Great to watch red kite. We have them around Loch Ken in Dumfries and Galloway. They are doing very well here.

heck you are lucky bonners!
Nothing much on my morning run...just a solitary Buzzard surveying rabbit activity. All pools still frozen down here along trails.

Handsome mistle thrush this morning and a very tuneful blackbird who thinks it's late February, not early December
