I'm currently in the Lake District but haven't done too much spotting. Heard a Cuckoo on yesterday's walk. A tawny hooting last night. And there were two red squirrels in the tree opposite the house yesterday

That must be so good to hear Oystercatchers passing by Derby_T..I guess you opened the indow because you were too hot! Nice selection of garden birds *anj*, I know I'll see more in my garden when the leaves are gone again! Reed Warbler and Cetti's while out running this morning. Just remembered, Coal Tit is back in the garden -much earlier than in recent years.

House Martin nests (2) discovered locally; can't commit to the BTO House Martin survey though. Reed Warbler likely breeding a half mile away from my house. Your selection of birds is to be envied Derby...ok...I still have Cetti's!

Was at the allotment yesterday and there was a real commotion with juvenile great tits making a racket demanding to be fed.

Possibly saw a black kite when out running Sunday, only other possibility red kite (or a buzzard with the middle part of its tail missing), but have seen black kites in France, they are slightly smaller, have longer, less forked tails than their red kite brethren. There has been one in Cornwall a week ago the other end of the county.

Wonderful week in Norfolk a couple of weeks ago. Spoonbill at Wells-next-the-Sea. Little ringed plovers at Titchwell, plus numerous avocets and three types of tern. Very helpful birders too who helped with some identification.
