It looks like we've had a Sparrowhawk in the garden. I left watching the garden for about 10 mins, with dogs in garden. Walked out about 10 mins later to see a load of feathers being investigated by the dogs. It had what I think we're talon marks in it, plus a patch where the feathers had been started to be pulled away. It's been taken away from the dogs reach and left for Mr or Mrs Fox to take later.

I'm assuming Phoebe didn't kill it as there wasn't the commotion of dogs chasing things before. Plus she snaffled a mouse earlier

The local sparrow family are enjoying a dust bath down the garden and the starling family are collecting insects out of the grass.

Reed Warbler fifteen minutes run time from my house this morning. Eight Blackcaps singing along a 1.5 mile trail. Blackcap bathing in bird bath in garden. Coal Tit back at feeder after a few weeks away. Did you read about the guy who ringed a Blackcap near his home in Staffordshire and re netted it within a few weeks again in Portugal, 1,500 miles away? I still don't get Starlings alpenrose!

That kingfisher isn't so far from me, Thornton Runner, so I might have a look one day. I've never seen one before.
Saw a few nice birds in South Africa and Mauritius. Blacksmith Plover, shrike (think southern), bulbul, zebra dove.
