I had to drive up to Wensleydale this morning. Decent numbers of swift in Threshfield, Kettlewell and Leyburn What do you think to this? I think it’s fun and quite good m.youtube.com |

The field out the back aka Bury Field Parkeun was cut yesterday, something like 30 kites and buzzards and a few gulls. Today the cut grass was turned and I counted 11 red kites. The baby kite was at the nest on Saturday morning but I think the temptation was too great and it left yesterday.

Fascinating, @Surelynot , I would have thought they would have stopped singing by now. I'll have to keep listening out. Still blackcaps singing here, and I had a little swim in the river on my run and was intrigued to see and hear sedge warblers close by in the sedge at the water's edge, one with a banded demoiselle in its beak. Interesting perspective. I also nearly stood on a green woodpecker, flew off from the path in front of me with much indignant yaffling.

Plenty more swifts over Osmotherley at the end of my run today. Gang of 7 flying between the houses and another 15 or so higher up. A kestrel hunting over the moors too. |

There seems to be far more swifts out around here now. I wonder if it was just the weather delaying them.

Sitting working away, next thing I knew there was a swallow flying around the room. He left the office, flew through to the bedroom and then into the dressing room. I could then open the double doors to the balcony and he left by his own accord. He was remarkably calm during the whole thing. |

@RunningRonnie , considering where they usually nest, they're clearly quite comfortable 'indoors', flying around inside buildings.
