Heard skylarks at work during the week.

This morning we saw a group of 5 egrets and dozens of herons! All congregated in a flooded field.

I had to Google, a group of herons is a seige.

I hear that a few Swallows have been seen along the South Coast and a House Martin.

Blackbirds and Song Thrushes singing well this morning.

We've had a song thrush belting away just outside the house this morning. My goodness, they're loud birds!

Last two mornings I have stood outside work after finishing nights for a bit listening to a song thrush in the woods next to work. A lovely way to end the working night. Also hearing the Tawny Owls in the same woods during the night

Just had a great week's birding in Norfolk. Well over a hundred different species during the week, with the highlights probably being:

almost a full set of herons: grey, all 3 egrets, and crane

pallid and hen harriers (although still debating which was which!) plus a lot of marsh
more red kites than ever before in Norfolk. It used to be any large raptor was almost certainly a marsh harrier; not any more.
velvet scoters
barm owls in the garden on several days, plus a couple of tawnies
glossy ibis
spoonbills
many geese, including white-front and tundra bean (lifer for me, as never been 100% on prev ones)
etc etc.

And it was so mild I was running in shorts and t-shirt rathe than the usual tights, many layers and a jacket. Glad I took x-talons as very muddy underfoot!

Where were you, flanker? The pallid harrier has been around for a long while now, although I haven't got around to trying to see it yet. Yes, lots more red kites now. I was up at the coast (Holkham) on Saturday and I've never seen so many red kites there before.

Based in Stiffkey, so all around the N coast. We were at Holkam on Friday. Nice view of the shore larks.

And I've been told of for forgetting to mention the drake long-tailed duck, which was K's highlight of the week. The high tide wader spectacular at Snettisham was also more impressive than I'd expected.

Can tell you where to see the pallid if you'd like, as know where it comes in to roost.

Sounds like a good week, flanker. Norfolk's a great county for birders, just not so good for mountaineers.
