Just saw two red-legged partridges trotting along a little cut-through near my house in urban Norwich, which was weird. Had one on my shed roof last year. Could someone actually be breeding them locally in their garden, I wonder? Does this happen? Can't see what they'd be doing here otherwise.

Yes, but not, I would imagine, in suburban gardens.

I've seen plenty of RL partridge in Norfolk over the years, but always out in the countryside. Their urban presence seems odd I agree!

It's been windy! Could have blown in from miles away.

jacdaw, hadn't thought of the wind as a possible issue! Yes, KinkyS, they're a common bird in the fields around here. But they're not a town bird.

Dont know how accurate it is, but Merlin picked up a stonechat this morning in the garden.
The over wintering black caps are still around, seeing the female around a lot, but haven't seen the male as much. Same thing happened with the chaffinches for a while but a few males around at the moment so that's nice as they are very pretty.

They sound like two big pebbles clacking together. They are aptly named

We have stonechats in the field out the back. Lovely little birds.
