Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

WW, that's always sad to see, even if it is the inevitable way of nature. Magpies have raided a couple of nests in our garden in recent years but it was still sad to see the magpie nest in a tall holly I look out on to from my office window being raided by a squirrel the other day. There was a big kerfuffle and I assumed that the squirrel had done the dirty deed, but I did see a magpie flying into the tree earlier so maybe not all was lost.

Something I learned today, which probably everybody else already knows but I'll pass it on just in case...

When using Merlin, and it has listed the birds it has picked up, the names of the birds which are currently singing pulse lightly. Hadn't spotted that until today. Handy!

Watching countless sandmartins feeding over the River Tees today completely oblivious to us with two dogs. Amazing to see.

I heard a couple of cuckoos in the New Forest today. There seems to be so few of them around this year.

We just had a quick one hour this evening, going for a full day tomorrow. Tree sparrows, barn owl and many, many kittiwakes, razorbills, guillemots and gannets :-)

I'm at Bempton Cliffs tomorrow! Or in the vicinity thereof, staying at a camp/caravan site a few minutes walk away. We were planning on doing a run round Flamborough Head tomorrow afternoon with a visit to Bempton Cliffs maybe the following morning. Never been to the area before, very excited about going there.

Tree sparrows, eh? That's one to look out for. No puffins? Have they gone?

J2R we're hoping for puffins tomorrow, they'll be further along where the cliffs are softer so they can burrow.
The tree sparrows are all over the place by the visitor centre, it was very hard to miss them
