Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Cuckoo on the lower slopes of Loughrigg Fell on the route of The Lap on 13 May and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same one as we heard in the same location a year earlier.

I was staying over the road on the weekend and heard a cuckoo both Saturday and Sunday morning.

I don't have children but I wonder if I did if their offspring would see or hear cuckoos in the future. I've heard one locally, and one when spending a long weekend walking the Jorvik Way largely through what looked ideal habitat

Lots of cuckoos in the past couple of days; Langdale, Wasdale, Ennerdale, Buttermere. I even got to see one of the Ennerdale ones. A few Swifts too.

This forlorn and stressed kingfisher fledgling was marooned on a footpath in our local park. I picked him up gently and walked towards the closest trees and opened my hands snd he flew off and disappeared into the branches..

Had to be careful not to tread on skylark on today's run. They were everywhere on the moor, and seem to be sensibly sitting out the heat rather than flying in it.
