Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Today's Strangford Lough sightings: lots of greenshank, big flock of red-breasted mergansers (pretty sure, too far out to be certain), wigeon, many curlews and a lovely view of a bullfinch in a hedge. No eider, alas, I was hoping to see some - not a duck I see back home.

That’s a fantastic pic. I know you’re not really meant to see badgers until you go looking for them, but I think I’ve only see a badger in the flesh once in my life. They look such stunning animals to observe.

It was back tonight, no more than 1 - 1.5 metres away. Regular visitor, for peanut butter and fatballs. This one is Madge the Badge. She has a dodgy left eye and is, we think, pregnant.

J2R, not sure where you're based in NI, recently I have seen wider in Belfast Lough at Crawfordsburn Country Park.

Heinzster, I've been staying near Strangford Lough, not far from Castle Espie. Yes, I think Eider are probably more birds of open sea, so Crawfordsburn would be more likely. Haven't made it up to Belfast Lough this trip.

This morning on the dark and rain a few songsters: Blackbird, Song Thrush, Robin and Wren. Saw catkins hanging from some trees, about the same time as last year.
