I don't if it the move and the new area, but this year has really felt like a break through in identifying black caps and willow warblers. I guess the more you see the easier it is.

Think our chances of local ducklings is fairly remote as there would appear to be a gang of five males in the field

Huge flock of sand martins by the river (Tees) today busily creating holes in a cliff that only appeared last year after the floods

I saw a swallow at the other barn yesterday. :) I then watched a black headed gull dive in the river and come up with a little fish about 4" long, he moved around a bit before he finally got it down his neck.

I wish I knew what all the lovely bird songs are as I go out and about.

I heard a cuckoo this morning. :)

Remind me where you are again, alpenrose? Alps, somewhere, if I recall correctly? Too early for cuckoos here.

I live in Bournemouth and venture into the surrounding countryside, heathlands, the New Forest and Dorset mainly. It's only in the winter (in more normal times) that you'll find me in the Alps.

So you heard a cuckoo there? Wow! Never heard them before May, as far as I can recall. (It's quite likely I'm misremembering, though :) ). I'll have to keep an ear out for them.

Back to Garden Warbler... you'd be lucky, very lucky to be seeing more than one at a time anywhere!
I can forget Cuckoo in these parts ( Cardiff) as they are rare around here although Jo and Joanne Bloggs have been telling me they've heard them for the last three or four weeks. And then they showed me them on their rooftop! Guess what!!??!!
