Song thrush highlight of today. Larks singing all the way along the dune paths.
Was woken up by chiffchaff singing again this morning and distant sound of a woodpecker.
Little Egrets in the field this morning.

The song thrushes were extremely vocal here tonight, as were the blackbirds and goodness knows what else. My overgrown hedgerow is heaving with song birds

Actually Sunday night, but still: 2x barn owls. A bat. A couple of dozen toads! Not all in one bunch but lots of them heading for ponds to spawn in.

...also, tonight (about midnight)there was a bird singing. Apparently this is too far north for a nightingale although the song was complex gibberish that went on for a while. Any ideas?

Woke at 5am to the sound of a blackbird singing its heart out.
They always seem to be up earliest.

Far too early for a Nightingale regardless of geography Rob. Song, Mistle or even a dozy Blackbird most likely, all will sing during nightime hours on occasion. With it being "gibberish" I'd go for Song Thrush.
Chiffchaffs well installed down here.
