Lovely shots of the yellowhammer, Roberto! Beautiful birds. Archetypal sound of the countryside, too.

Brilliant pictures! I never knew you could rent camera lenses, you live and learn!

um, the 100-400 is lighter than the 150-600 I regularly heft around, and it performs far better.

All a matter of perspective I think. I've got quite comfortable with having the 150-600 over my shoulder on all walks that when going back to my 400 prime it now seems like a toy in comparison.
Not many birds over past weekend. A brief glimpse of a kingfisher in flight on a stretch of the Derwent near Langley Mill and an annoyingly missed shot of a very vibrant grey wagtail on same stretch that was beautifully framed by its surroundings.
A trip over to Titchwell and Cley in Norfolk planned for a bit of a break next week will hopefully prove more fruitful.

I found I needed the single focal point option to get best focus at distance & zoom, but that needed a bit of gesswork on exposure, sometimes needing to add a stop manually. I used a monopod which I found easier than a tripod, especially for deer who don't seem to want to stand & pose.
flanker, weath - what 150-600 do you use?
Heinzster - the lens I hired was about 4% the cost of a new one. So I thought it was worth the outlay to test before purchase over a few days with mixed targets. And I think I'll stick with occasional hires, unless I win the lottery.

I have the Tamron (G2) paired with Canon 7D mk2 (a mate uses the Sigma contemporary version with a 90D - and that system seems to return much better image quality than mine).
I loathe tripods but do find lugging a monopod a good compromise and not too much of an additional burden. The 'pod I have has an advantage in having the option of fixing 3 steadying feet to the base if needed, that are otherwise stored n the leg tube.

7DII with the Sigma 150-600. I'm not all that impressed with the lens at the 600 end, but my cousin has the same lens and it seems far sharper. I also know someone with the older Sigma 150-500 DG APO which is a far better lens.

I have the 'Bigma' 50-500 with my Nikon. Its not anything special and I bought it 2nd hand for about ยฃ300. Its heavy though. But for what I want (pics of my dog and wildlife when I get the opportunity but just for personal use really) then it does the job.
This is what I got yesterday with it at the 500 end.

That seems really good value, Um. I would have expected more, unless there is a big market out there for hire? My photography skills are limited to pointing my phone in the general direction and hoping!
