Roberto, wow! I would have thought the kingfisher would have a handy trick at its disposal, diving into the stream. Maybe the sparrowhawk would just wait until it resurfaced, though.

That's a great photo RH.

I overnighted on the coast NE of Maryport (nr Allonby) on Sunday and was rewarded by some good early morning views of Dunlin, Golden Plover, Oycs, Ringed Plover, Curlew plus at least five types of Gull feeding on the sands as the tide retreated. But the spot of the day was the group of terns sat on the sand that turned out to be Sandwich Terns, a first for me.

The stream is running incredibly low right now. It joins the river derwent about a quarter mile further down which is bigger but would have been no escape until then. One of those moments where I only saw it because I recognised the kingfishers call. And no chance of getting my camera pointed in time.

oh yes, saw similar selection when we stayed in Mawbray a few years back - would have gone for a wander one morning if the weather had been better last week

I am so jealous - youngest has been on a wildlife tour of Mull today with a local guide - 4 golden eagles, 2 white tailed eagles, a hen harrier and 2 otters.
S’not fair!

Not bird related, but so chuffed I need to share! DS1 has just been offered a job as a primary teacher. He should have graduated in primary education this summer (Covid scuppered that, but got his degree) and jobs have been in short supply. Interviewed yesterday and got it today! So proud I need to tell as many people as I can, he wants to tell friends and relatives himself so you lovely lot are getting it 😅
