Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

We saw a pair of SEOs when we were running on the moor this evening. Definitely must have a nest. They didn't like the look of us.

There's a lammergeier currently in Derbyshire! Juvenile, I believe.

I think they would stay if there was more large carrion in the hills.

I'm off to the Peak District for a week from Saturday. Where should I go for my birding highlights? And, jacdaw, yes, a lammergeier would certainly tick a box!

Lammergeier was seen at Edale, but not necessarily hanging around.

Otherwise... Lathkill Dale for dipper, wood warbler, little grebe, general loveliness. Stanage Edge for ring ouzel and chats.

I've found an amazing local nature reserve that's been around for ages, but isn't very well publicised and is members only, so we joined. Probably the best example of mixed and mature woodland in the area and lots of different habitats to explore.

Spent a very happy hour in a hide watching a tern fishing right in front of us (often too close for the camera), saw a flash of a kingfisher, and also saw an egret, heron and moorhen with chicks, plus deer and a faun and three different species of butterfly.

I think there will be a few more trips there. It's only 10 mins from where I normally work!
