Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

D2, envious of your nesting swallows. We don't get them where I live (well, not over our garden anyway - they do occur nearby). They're elegant birds.

Given that bluetits eat aphids, I don't understand why we don't get huge flocks of them here! I live in a street lined with very large lime trees, which must have untold millions of aphids living in them judging by the huge quantities of honeydew which rain down onto my car. I've just spent ages cleaning the sticky gunk off, but within a day or so it will be completely coated again.

Sands DT? Round there several times a week, and get regular grey wags and sometimes dippers, but not noticed the sand martin. That's next week's task sorted :-)

Walk off the main road past the club and up on to the canal side. You’re just beyond the park. Turn right and you’re on the aquaduct carrying the canal over the Calder. There must have been a couple of dozen sand martin bombing about plus the odd swift. Maybe they were a feeding party away from ‘home’? I know the canal around there well (the cafe a bit further on is good) but don’t know the river

Loads of swifts along with some house martins swirling over my meadows this afternoon, actually probably more accurately "over my cattle and their associated flies""! Bird table action has slowed down a lot in the last few days so I'm assuming there are less parents feeding hungry babies and more fledglings finding their own food.

I’ve just seen a badger. Not 100% certain but possibly only my 2nd ‘local’ sighting in nearly 16 years in the West Riding

DT,

I sit on a bench at that spot to eat my lunch regularly and I've never seen a sand martin there!

Goldfinch returned for first time in a few weeks. And brought a friend. 😁😁😁
