That's a sad graph, jackdaw.

My little patch of Bedfordshire has landowners who are now trying to improve practices and it does seem to be beginning to work. Having the RSPB Headquarters "over the road" probably helps with local influence too.

Superb picture Heinzter. It’s almost like an ink painting.

I was looking up a great walk we did last year in the south of the Peak and realised it was what ff posted previously ie Long Dale and Gratton Dale. This is away from some of the busier areas and superb. Incidentally also fantastic for butterflies. Maybe ff can update us wether Elton cafe is open. Years, err, decades actually, ago it was very good. I’d normally recommend a trip to Scarthin books in Cromford too but fear it’s quirky tiny rooms and passageways many aren’t ideal in these times

Just watched a greenfinch take on any sparrow that dared to get near the seed feeder it was eating from this morning. It was very aggressive.

Also had a visit from a juvenile goldfinch.

Working from home has some clear advantages.

Really looking forward to my Peaks trip now! Long Dale and Gratton Dale are firmly on the agenda.

Surelynot, yes, greenfinches have a swagger about them on the feeders, and won't be dislodged by anything other than squirrels or great spotted woodpeckers. They exude a "You don't want to mess with this beak" confidence.

We had a couple of long tailed tits on the feeder this morning - only the second time I've spotted them in the garden. Usual crowd of sparrows, and plenty of youngsters of various varieties - sparrows, robin, blackbirds, magpies, pigeons and squirrels.

Visit from three juvenile Grey Wags this morning including one with only one leg (well one and a half). It was fascinating to watch it still doing a Wagtaill bob with perfect balance as it hopped around.

I probably sound like I'm on repeat about these goldfinches, but there have just been 3 of them.

A couple of baby magpies were just making a racket trying to get their parents to feed them.

Long-tailed tits are fantastic wee birds.
