I saw a video of a gcg catching and eating sand martins, somewhere in County Durham. Apparently it has done it for the last 3 years.

Lots of cuckoos (6?) in the New Forest today.
( or just one always 1/2 mike ahead of us?)

And 3 pairs of buzzards - all in the air, at points of a triangle about a mile apart. All seeming to ‘ignore’ the others. Although the first pair were in a tree, then stayed low, second pair stayed ‘near‘ their nest, one of the third pair was incredibly high. Was that hunting or just dominating behaviour?

Still swiftless, but was treated to a display by the local housemartins over the garden tonight.

Now have fledgling sparrows, starlings, blackbirds and greenfinches visiting. Plenty of goldfinches, but no youngsters yet.

If you have a few minutes spare, the puffin webcam on Coquet is therapeutic.

I love seeing the puffins. We usually go to the Farnes to see them. Those cameras are almost as good

Fascinating stuff here. Buzzard cruising overhead being attacked and I mean attacked by a herring gull. Several others came up, but this was the only one that physically attacked it. Seen buzzards getting mobbed plenty of times but never seen anything so violent. There are plenty of gull nests in the area and seeing how violent the attacks are explains the many gull scars I've got on my head.
