It's a bit late in the year, but could it be a brambling?

I wondered same. My first thought was chaffinch not bullfinch. Not saying not bullfinch; just it wasn’t what first sprung to mind

You may well be right about that jackdaw, happy to be wrong. Head isn't right for a bullfinch on reflection.

Bullfinch are really skulky birds. I know it’s breeding season but I can’t imagine one there high up in the open

Oh dear, I’ve stirred up a hornets 🐝 nest here. I’m cleaning down the guttering tomorrow, so hopefully, our feathered friend will put in another appearance.
Many thanks for all your help. We live opposite some woods that lead down to the sea, so I don’t know 🤷‍♂️ if that may sway anybody’s opinion?
Enjoy 😊 what’s left of the weekend everyone.

I'd go Chaffinch looking at the wing markings and the shape of the head. I think the confusing thing is the dark face but I suspect that might be shadow. The location definitely suggests Chaffinch as well. Was it singing David?

I'm thinking brambling, but it's definitely late for one.

My first cuckoo and willow warbler of the year today.

Ah, sorry flyingfinn, but I'm deaf, which is half my problem. Even with my hearing aids in, I have to strain to hear. When we are out & about walking, my wife often says, "Oh, listen to that" & I can't hear a thing.

No need to apologise David, I shouldn't just assume.

J2R I'm rather jealous of the Cuckoo. My go to Cuckoo is always at the golf club (the valley is actually called Cuckoostone Dale on the OS maps) which is out of bounds at the moment. :-( For me on the photo the way the orange/red of the breast meets the neck is wrong for a Brambling but it's difficult to be certain either way.
