Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I don't know a lot about birds and wondered if anyone can help me to identify this one which came for a visit this morning.

A young goldfinch Jen ... will soon get a red head.
If you've got one, you'll probably get a load more.

Good pics as well !

Long time lurker on this thread, but first post here.

I am assuming that most will have seen the kingfisher photos taken at Attenborough Nature Reserve in Nottingham over the weekend? Absolutely amazing shots and just on my doorstep.

Yes, JenLov, 2019 registration goldfinch. We have been getting loads of them on our feeders in the last couple of weeks. I think it must have been a good breeding season.

I was watching a Cetti's warbler hopping around in the reeds this morning, which is a very unusual sight. They're reasonably common birds round here, I hear the piercingly loud song quite often, but I hardly ever see them as they skulk deep in undergrowth.

No goldfinches in my garden, but really big flocks on thistle in local farmers fields. They seem to have done really well this year. The goldfinches and the thistles.

I still have a few siskins on the niger feeders; maybe they are just lazy.
