I remember that my brother used to enter the pike fishing competition every Boxing Day when he was young, before he discovered the pub. ;-)

Arrived to my parents house (where I Grew up). They have a stream that runs through the garden and recently had an otter in. (Been here for 12 years and never seen one there before). Also been a fox showing up which we haven’t seen in the garden before.

I saw a dipper on Thursday. It was sitting, fairly dejectedly, by a weir beside the blue pool in Blautopf, Germany. The pool is fed by a spring and is amazingly deep. It connects through kilometers of underwater caves, but they haven't found the source yet.

We’ve not gone to the reserve today - however this pic by @Draycotebirding has been shared on twitter.... I was right about the fact we’d struggle to fit today!!!

Dave has broken into the Christmas cake instead 😀

We did a higher level walk this morning and saw very few birds: a handful of fieldfare and a redwing to be precise

No fieldfare or redwing yet this year, a bit early?

A newcomer to the garden just now, fairly certain it's a blackcap, which is a first for me. Definitely not a tit, so I've ruled them out. Can't see anything else similar in my guide, so think I'm right unless anybody has any other ideas?

Interestingly a couple of weeks ago I had to move my feeders out of the way of the cat sentry guns I've installed (they're brilliant water guns, no permanent harm but discourages cats very well), but since then the amount of birds is shooting up. It is only a small garden, so I'm wondering if it is just the lack of cats?

Cheers DT. I'm fairly certain, but never having seen one before I've been trawling for alternatives jsut to be sure.
