Fragile Do Not Bend
A squirrel is being a nuisance in my garden too. I had a nut feeder which is made of metal mesh but it had a plastic base - the squirrel chewed around the base until it fell off. Fortunately the seed feeder has a metal cage around it.

The Bittern is back on our local reserve..... what do you reckon our chances are of managing to get in the hide at the weekend past all of the mahooosive zoom lenses and men settled in for the day with their flasks and packed lunches???? Let alone getting to see the Bittern 😂😂
I’d go on my own on Friday but would hate to deprive Dave for the chance for coffee and Cake at the cafe 😂

Third walk of the day turned up a flock of LTT and a good view of Stef’s dipper singing his waistcoat off near the infamous Hoot corner

Phal, I get that feeling. Fortunately we have 4 bitterns who take up residence in our local reserve, so less clamour for particular hides. But once some photos show, it’s ridiculous, same with the starlings and kingfishers once they start showing. Whereas I go all year round regardless of knowing of anything there.
Saying that, I’ve just bought a mahoosive lens and my flask is ready for some use.

Peregrine over Stuttgart this afternoon. Plenty of pigeons and some ...... interesting..... Taxidermy on one of the Christmas market stalls to advertise their game sausages. You would think killing the poor things is the ultimate action against them, but evidently not.

I saw the male black grouse again on my run today; I assume it was the same bird as last time. It was sitting in a hawthorn eating berries.

Can anybody recommend somewhere on line to buy sunflowers hearts, preferably ones that don't cause too much mess, or do they all?

All sunflower hearts cause mess, although not nearly as much as whole sunflower seeds. The worst culprits are goldfinches, who are appallingly wasteful and messy eaters, showering seeds and bits of seeds down. Fortunately much is cleaned up by woodpigeons and collared doves on the ground. Can't help with the online purchasing question from personal experience, although I keep meaning to try https://www.vinehousefarm.co.uk/, who seem to have a good reputation.

That's the problem then, we have a multitude of Goldfinches! Thanks for the info.
