Plenty of birds will begin their moult soon, which is the reason why Robins seem to disappear.

Their young ones (all brown) will have the run of the territory until their own moult into adult plumage.

In the meantime, mum and dad will be skulking about in the undergrowth looking for all the world like a sofa with the stuffing falling out.

They look right grumpy too.

When I was in the garden earlier I overheard some walkers on my footpath talking, they had obviously seen and heard the buzzards circling above.... "are those vultures?" "there must be loads of dead animals about now its hot"...

I saw a blackcap today and a reed bunting, most unusual for me and my friend and I were pleased to be able to identify them. Also, a teenage moorhen being shooed away by mum as she was tending her latest pair of offspring.

Fragile Do Not Bend
As my ability to identify warblers is pretty poor, I was delighted to identify a sedge warbler today. I even got a (not very good) photo.

We are at a reserve on the North Norfolk coast today and also saw a good selection of water birds including avocet chicks and juvenile shelducks.

The friend I was with yesterday has the RSPB ap on her phone. She said it cost about £5.00 but seems to be very good for use in identifying, especially the songs.
