Loads of goldfinches round here, eating pounds of niger seeds every week! Helped out by siskin and redpoll. Lots in all the verges, too, fedding on dandelion and thistle.

Loads of goldfinches with fledgings in our garden at the moment. Swallows, housemartins and the odd swift now overhead, certainly none in the garden though - very jealous DT.

There was a lovely flock of 24 jackdaw grazing on the rec this morning. I always think they are underrated - shiny black bodies, sleek grey heads and icy cool blue eyes. So handsome in the sunshine :-)

I guess they drove off the 100-strong flock of mixed juvenile and adult starlings that were there yesterday!

Very close view of a pair of grey wagtail on tonight’s walk. Haven’t seen a common sand on new patch or a woodcock in spite of decent habitat (or so I thought)

I was lying on the beach today when the fisherman landed his catch from his rowing boat. He then proceeded to chop the heads off some of them and the beach turned into a scene from The Birds. There were herring, black headed and greater black backed gulls, with young, all squabbling over the snacks. I stayed put and was lucky that the only thing dropping from the sky was the food. ;-)

It was interesting to watch as the black backed were late to the party and once they came in none of the others contested them.

Bird song fading away locally now, Blackcaps only making a half hearted attempt at singing now and fewer of them. Not many other species even bothering!
