I think the goldfinches have had a good year. I can hardly keep up with the amount of niger they are eating. We have lots of siskin and redpoll, too, and even the occasional sparrow stuffing it down (or spraying it everywhere in the case of the sparrows).

Lots of young coal tits, great tits and house sparrows on the feeders too.

There seem to be reasonable numbers of young lapwing and curlew around too, but as ever, loads end up dead on the roads. I wish people took a bit more care.

I thought I worked hard but it is nothing compared with the male blackbird collecting food from my garden.. he was there at 6.30 this morning having been there still at 10.00 last night!! (I have a new patio umbrella which I'm enjoying sitting under, I'll get back to work once the novelty has worn off)

Brilliant walk up Moel Siabod in Snowdonia today. Was just saying to the wife that perhaps we are too late in the season to hear cuckoos, when one flew up right in our path, dont know who was more startled, us or the bird! Despite hearing them most times on this walk, was first time I've ever seen one, chuffed to bits.

Also, swarms of insects at the top of the mountain, being hunted by good numbers of swifts. Saw a couple of pairs of wheatears, some skylarks and a couple of other small birds I am still wading through my guide books trying to identify. Fabulous day all round.
