flanker
Stone curlews today, followed by a tree creeper almost close enough to stroke. Thought these were the highlights today until the bitterns at Lakenheath decided to upstage them.

Had heard them booming during the afternoon, and had a flypast as one dove into the reeds. Then, on the way out of the reserve, we had two performing some kind of aerial display while another boomed in the reeds below. Went on for at least 10 minutes. Seen more this year than ever before. Need to sort out a large number of photos...

that's special flanker!
I'm not likely to see either around here, or for that matter hear a Cuckoo either! Saw some Starlings just 400 metres from my house ..Starlings?! Rare in and close to my garden with only two sightings in eight years!

I'll quite happily swap some of my starlings Steve 😀

Regulars to our garden at the moment are starlings, sparrows, dunnock, goldfinches, herring gulls, bluetit and blackbirds. Nothing else apart from occasional visitors. Recent fave was GSW, but only visited once, although I've heard him drumming in the local area.

You can have some of mine too, and the woodpigeons 😅

I’ve had a good range of bird in my garden but never seen a house sparrow, which I still find odd after two years of living here. In my old house in the ‘burbs they were the most common species.

I've seen two house sparrows in the garden, in 9 years of living here, but 200 metres up the road they're chirping away all over the place. Bizarre. Redpolls and bramblings are hugely more common.

We never had spadgers at my old house but the neighbours had a ‘four clutch per year factory’ under their garage roof
