Apparently there have been waxwings for the last few days in the park that I walk through every morning on the way to the station. Earlier in the year there were some in my street but I never saw them either. I think they are hiding from me.
Longish bike ride for me, firstly failing to find a kingfisher. However my tally for the year is up to 90 with, predictably, house martin but also blackcap and glossy ibis. I would not have known what the latter was if a kind lady hadn't told me.

Thank you. Just reviewing my photos, not such a good picture but I think this might be a pied flycatcher and, if so, it is number 91. Never seen one of these before.

Yes, pied flycatcher! Wonderful! We don't get them much over here in the east, and it's always a delight to spot them whenever I'm in Wales or the south west. Also wonderful glossy ibis. Where was that? Strange there are waxwings still around. I would have thought they'd all have flown back to Scandinavia or Russia long ago.

Thanks for confirming. I was a bit of a ninny and just saw the black and white and assumed it was a wagtail and concentrated on trying to get a piccy but, looking at it later, saw its physique was quite different.
I would have assumed that the waxwings would have scarpered weeks ago but there are reports from the last few days. The glossy ibis was at Cossington Meadows, north of Leicester.

Male pied fly. One of my fave summer migrants and usually a bird of mature woodland. If you are there again look out for redstart and listen for wood warbler
