First definite whitethroats locally (outside Norwich) for me this year. Didn't see them but heard them in a hedgerow while out cycling. Think I heard some the other day, but couldn't be sure. Also think I heard a distant cuckoo today, another first of year.

Lots of red kites, as I knew there would be, today at Oxon 20. The route this year went though lots of bluebell woods and there was some lovely birdsong but I didn't see any singers. Too busy watching where I was going, as I'm clumsy on the trails.

HowFar?
I was chatting to my landlord today and he showed me where a swallow has nested in the cab of his tractor!

First mayfly of the year spotted today, although it will be around three weeks before the main hatch at this end of the big lough.

Out cycling again today and loads of whitethroats around. Don't know what kept them, they're a little later than usual this year. Delightful aural backdrop of yellowhammers and skylarks as well.
