First swallows for me along the river today. Saw some really interesting two tone brown birds on the edge of my binoculars vision on the river bank as well. Hopefully will get to see them again, maybe a bit closer to give a decent description on here.

No singing Cetti's today for me J2R ! Wind was a bit keen early on, and chilly with full cloud. Swallows again and Willow Warblers more common here than last few years.

Loads of birds that I thought were swallows on the river this morning, but tail were too short. I'm afraid I always get mixed up. Very busy hunting flies on the wing, so housemartins then?

You'll be pleased to hear that next Sunday there is a guided tour along the river by the ornithology wetland survey. I pity the bloke as I can't wait to learn what some of my mystery species are 😀

I went to check the swans at the river this morning. I found 1 sitting on the nest and the other nest that can be seen was empty - no swan or eggs, might it be a bit early?

Don't think it's too early alpenrose....Have had swans sitting on eggs in late March before now but of course there can be differences in different locations.

I checked the RSPB website and it says they usually lay in late April/early May so all prepared for the happy event. :)

Finished parkrun today and on a whim decided to take the guided walk thru the RSPB nature reserve. thoroughly enjoyable with helpful volunteers. Managed to spot tufted ducks, gadwalls, teal, redshanks, common sandpiper, sand martins, a snipe, a linnet, curlew, shelducks, willow warbler and many others. Will definitely do it again after parkrun, for members it is only two pound and you get see some stuff through their scopes (like the linnet and snipe) that I would never have spotted.
