Chunky looking feller :-)

SD - the line off Red Pike down to Bleaberry Tarn is notoriously eroded, I totally empathise. Runnable in a decent pair of fell shoes though :-)

There's a nice little Birkett on the way down that's worth bagging, one of the Lake District's many Dodds :-)

The fish is impressive too ;-)

Looks mid-thirty pounder if it’s an ounce

Um - 😂😂
I'm not doing very well .. I meant Bleaberry Tarn! We went up by Scale Force which was a lovely route (and didn't see a soul until we were nearly on top), then out and back to Starling Dodd. Great day out apart from that one bit!

Interesting..last summer I looked at descending from Red Pike ... but the path looked awful.. so walked on Lingcombe edge and came down by Scale Beck.. but that was a tricky descent as well. The path had nearly fallen into the gully in places.

I’m not sure what I would chose again.

While we’re Uppp North... I do love the ascent of Mellbreak .. on the north end. Hanging on to ( lucky) heather that’s only rooted in scree ... not to be forgotten.

God yes, descent off the northern end of Mellbreak is significant. I tried to run down one of those eroded scree sections, fell on my arse and ended up with bits of scree embedded in me for several days. Exposed in a couple of places too.

Love the view of the northern aspect from Kirkstile, very Imposing 🙂

Oops, sorry - you said ascent. Never done it that way. Competitors in the Buttermere Sailbeck race are not allowed to use the northern descent.

I've still got a dent in my shin from going up to Red Pike from Bleaberry. I misjudged how far the pointed end of an innocuous rock stuck out into the path. Apart from that it's not. abad way up from Buttermere.

Been along that ridge numerous times, but still never turned E to Melbreak.

Anyone know what the descent SW from Red Pike towards Gillerthwaite hostel is like? It's looks like it should be OK on the map but never noticed it when up there.

Think you mean the Darren Holloway Buttermere race, NE. The Buttermere Sailbeck race is all to the north of Buttermere.

The Daz Holloway race is definitely on my list as it's supposed to be harder than Wasdale, Ennerdale or the Great Lakes Run. Maybe this year?
