Wonder if someone will have a go at a super fast BGR once it's deemed acceptable.

Unfortunately the dry weather hasn't made the trails in the Fens any quicker. If anything they are more dangerous. The mud has turned to concrete, real ankle breaking conditions.

Yeah bit the same round here FR. A lot of the fields got churned up in the very wet conditions we had over the winter and now have set solid in with all sorts of ridges and ruts under the grass. Not great for quick running but I tend to look at it as a good ankle and proprioception work out, like running across rocks in the dark
Totriornottotri I tend to agree with your sentiment about the tea round if he'd just gone and had a bimble round on the QT. Like a number of folk I know well who are lucky enough to live under the fells and are still getting to enjoy them I would have thought you lucky barsteward I'd probably be doing the same if I lived there. However he clearly went out with serious intent to break the record and must have been hammering it and taking risks, you don't run that much faster than Ricky Lightfoot taking it steady! He also did it with the full knowledge of his coach and then they both advertised the 'success' on social media. All that puts it in a whole different and not good category in my book. I'm perhaps even more unimpressed with the role of his coach than I am with him doing it. A good coach is much more than someone who sets your physical sessions and I would have expected an older and more experienced individual to have seriously counselled him on this idea. And certainly not to have used it as an opportunity to promote his coaching services

ff - they are good points actually. Naive at best, provocative and arrogant possible. By the rules he can do it but feel the mood!

Has anyone seen a comment from George Fisher? I can't imagine they will like the inevitable bad press that goes with this. It's all a bit of a shame isn't it? I mean, it's not as if we haven't got enough problems to deal with.

To me the main thing is it’s not like a major record. Some idiot doing a BG record (attempt) would be far worse
As for the coach I agree with you ff completely (I’ve no idea who he is , or had heard of George Foster so have no previous axes to grind)

NE I'm guessing George Fisher is closed at the moment so there's a good chance they might not be aware? (btw did you know that it's owned by the Scottish outdoor retailer Tiso which is in turn owned by JD Sports (along with Blacks and Milletts) I always thought it was a local Keswick outfit but it ceased to be on it's 50th anniversary in 2007.)

I remember Tiso taking over George Fisher, but didn't know they were all owned by JD Sports

BTW the comment on GF ownership was purely from a point of surprise. I had some tremendous and essentially free service from them last November when they sorted out a Leki pole I'd damaged but when I settled the postage with my CC I was very surprised when it came up on my statement as a transaction with Tiso, which then led me to do some googling.

JD took control of Tiso in 2013 Vrap. I think they were in financial difficulties. One of the founder's sons is still the CEO. For anyone heading up the A9 Tiso have a large store at the roundabout on the north side of Perth (the one after the Broxburn junction with the M90). There's loads of parking outside and a great cafe, makes a really nice stop-off when heading that way, you just have to be careful with your CC!
