runnyeyes: I'm not suggesting the subject of your marvellous picture is 'stout Cortez' but I'm reminded of a passage in Ransome's 'Swallows and Amazons' in which Titty names a steep, wooded promontory overlooking 'the Lake' the 'peak in Darien'.
She'd heard the sonnet from which this short snippet comes at school, when Keats occupied a larger part of the Eng Lit syllabus than it does now....

Lovely walk from Tilberthwaite. First summit Wetherlam, going up Wetherlam Edge. ( little bit of scrambling takes your mind off the tired legs). Then prison band to Swirl How/ Grey Friar / Great Carrs. Descended on the ridge just above Greenburn beck. It was all about the views, and visibility was excellent. We had lunch on the slopes of Grey Friar, and I could see the Scafells, Skiddaw and Helvellyn. I don’t think I’ve ever seen all those top three from one vantage point.
Otherwise..got too hot and sunny. I must start carrying *more* water.

visibility was indeed very good today I should have waved
I had second breakfast at the top of Sticks Pass - well the dog ate most of it. He then finished the rest for his lunch on Gt Dodd. I had to refuel in Fellbites - which was very good

I intended to start today's walk with Glenridding Dodd - Sheffield Pike - Hart Side and then see if I was up to a Dodd or two. Couldn't find the path to The Rake at all, was following the instructions on Walk-lakes as it's not that clear on the map - will have to give those two another go when I have a shorter walk window. Ended up going the other way around, fighting the horrid bit of path by the mine and then a lovely collection of Dodds and deciding to put up with the horrid bit of path again rather than head up Sheffield on the way back as the dog had about had enough - it was so warm!

Good going over the Dodds. Biggest job can be finding one or two of the actual tops
