Has anybody tried the larger Ultimate Direction fastpacks (the 30 or 40)? I have the 20, but might like a bigger one as I am updating my sleeping bag / pad to something that might actually keep me warm (and double size)!

I've got a 20,25 and a 40 (i think) thing to watch out for is the different pocket types on the front as the designs seem to vary a lot but love and get a lot of use out of all three ......... maybe not the 25 so much now thinking about it.........

I'm waiting for the sleeping pad to come back in stock, and then I can judge how much space I need. I'm wondering if the 40 is the way to go, rather than the 30. Can you run in a full (but not heavy) 40? |

Yep not a problem at all - well I find it ok, pretty sure if you look at some of the spine videos you will see a lot of runners also using the 40 ......... and they do "some" running ![]() |

For the design is such that if you're not filling it then you are rolling down the top effectively making it a 30, however you cant stretch the 30 to make it fit 40 ...... it depends on the end use and future proofing yourself.

Yeah, thanks, that's what I was thinking. If I have a 20 and a 40, I sort of have a 20 and a (possibly slightly compromised) 30 and a 40. For only a small weight and cost penalty. And the possibility of longer trips in the future. |

Does anybody use a bivi / bivvy / bivvi bag, and have advice / recommendations. I'm thinking of ultralight bivis for very fast and light, short backpacking trips, maybe like the Alpkit Hunka - alpkit.com to dip my toe in. If money was no object, or I was certain I would get use of, I think I would go for the Terra Nova Jupiter - terra-nova.co.uk Do people think I need to take a sleeping pad, or can I get away without? |
