Listening to Boris Johnson's appearance on Desert Island Discs in 2005... He mentions being Brussels correspondent for the Telegraph from around 1989 to the mid 1990s and seeing the European project change dramatically after Germany reuniting - advancing towards a single polity in an attempt I answer the German question. Interesting he refers to his euro-scepticism as far back as then so perhaps he's now not being as opportunist as some think. |

What I don't understand is that (seemingly) a number of politicians have thought long and hard about which side to come down on, and then they campaign with all their might for that side. If I were split 45%/55% on a decision, I would honour the 45% of my views. I might even say, this is terribly important but none of us knows the best answer. |
